IN any form of motorsport, the slightest of advantages can mean the difference between winning and losing. In F1 that advantage is magnified, to great extent.
And not many people know more about trying to gain an advantage over their rivals than Christian Horner, who is the head of the Red Bull F1 team and has been since its inception. Horner tried to get a sneaky advantage over his biggest Formula One rival recently after he outbid the room at the Autosport awards for a factory tour of the Mercedes F1 facility.
Had he made it to the Brackley factory, Horner would have been given an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the team’s workshops, design facility, and more. Obviously, that is something that Mercedes couldn’t let allow.
As it happens, it’s not going to be an issue, as Mercedes apparently included some sensible T&Cs along with the sale of the tour – namely that you can’t be a member of a current F1 team to take part in the tour.
And you definitely can’t be Christian Horner!
But Christian’s loss is BSB team owner Faye Ho’s gain, as her bid was the next best, bagging her an exclusive mooch around one of the most high-tech motorsport facilities on the planet.
It’s not known how much Faye had to pay for the experience, although the Hammer fell for Horner’s now-defunct bid at an eye-watering £3,000!
