TO celebrate its 2022 King of the Baggers (KotB) championship crown, an ultra-limited edition Indian Challenger RR has been announced.
Just 29 of these factory-built racers will be produced worldwide, each being built to the same spec and level as the official KotB race bikes. That means the engine has been extensively updated, with a big-bore piston and barrel kit, new throttle bodies, ported cylinder heads, and performance cams. Elsewhere the bike features Öhlins FGR250 forks and a TTX rear shock, joined by top-spec Brembo M4 calipers that act upon 330mm discs.
The bikes are being bolted together by Indian and S&S, with the same crew that built the race machine ridden by Tyler O’Hara last season working on these limited-edition machines. Indian hopes that the bikes will be snapped up by eager (and brave trackday riders), although it's more likely that most will land in collections that rarely see the light of day!
Speaking about the project, Gary Gray, Vice President – Racing, Technology and Service for Indian Motorcycle said:
“Originally, the thought of road racing baggers was perplexing to many and even downright offensive to some road racing purists. But in just three short years, King of the Baggers has emerged as the hottest thing in motorcycle racing as these bikes have rapidly evolved in their sophistication, and we thought it would be awesome to give people the opportunity to own the bike that holds the crown … We’re excited to embrace the fandom of bagger racing and celebrate our second title with this highly exclusive, special run of Indian Challenger RR motorcycles. This bike is the real deal, much like when we released the venerable FTR750, the Indian Challenger RR is a true race bike and is not street legal. Put in the right hands, it will reach the podium in MotoAmerica’s Mission King of the Baggers race series.”
Pricing for the race-only machines is not confirmed in the press release about the bike, but we’re guessing it’s a significant step up in cost compared to a stock Indian Challenger Limited, which comes in at £26,795.
