DAY three of the International Six Days Enduro in Navarra, Spain, served up tricky riding conditions for seven hours in the saddle yesterday.
Team USA continued to lead by just over one-and-a-half minutes as Team Great Britain moved closer to a podium spot in both Trophy and Junior classes.
With the dry and dusty conditions of day one and two washed away, day three of the 2017 ISDE served up a new route with some demanding special tests. Spain and the USA finished as the two fastest World Trophy teams, just two seconds apart. Italy continued their good form in the event in third, with Great Britain and Portugal fourth and fifth separated by thirty-two seconds.
Team USA’s Taylor Robert said: “It was definitely a different kind of day today. I’ve had some good results in slippery, muddy conditions in the World championship races this season so I wasn’t too worried about the conditions.
“The tests were certainly slippery in places, but I kept mistakes to a minimum and had a good day. It was cool to be riding on some fresh trails. For me it was a great day.”
Sweden led the Junior World Trophy team competition, winning day three by just over one minute. Italy managed to finish 15 seconds ahead of USA with Finland and Great Britain closing the gaps, including Jack Edmondson (pictured). The big news from the day was that Spain dropped from second to sixteenth following the DNF result of one of their riders.
Australia claimed a third consecutive class win in the Women’s World Trophy competition, ahead of Spain, Germany and the USA. In the overall classification the Australian squad now sits just under three-and-a-half minutes clear of Spain, with Germany in third.
The fastest overall individual rider on day three was Taylor Robert, who finished close to eight seconds ahead of Portugal’s Luis Correia, who in turn just edged out Australian Daniel Sanders.
Josep Garcia topped the Enduro 1 class, finishing ahead of countryman Victor Guerrero, with Portugal’s Luis Oliveira in third.
Taylor Robert also headed the Enduro 2 category ahead of fellow USA team rider Kailub Russell, with Jaromir Romancik third.
Sitting second, third and fourth overall for the day, Luis Correia , Daniel Sanders and Danny McCanney finished as the top three in Enduro 3, separated by just 23 seconds.
Day four of the 2016 ISDE will see riders compete on the same course as day three, before a new track is used on day five.
