The Southern 100 event has published the identity of the two people killed in an incident during practice for the 2023 races.
A statement published on the Southern 100's website and social media channels confirmed that the rider Alan Connor, 50, from County Meath; and the race marshal Liam Clarke, 66, from Wigan were both killed in the crash on Tuesday evening.
Alan Connor had been the finisher of 36 Isle of Man TT races during his career, and achieved a personal best lap of 119.304mph, having debuted on the Mountain Course at the 2003 Manx Grand Prix. The 2023 edition was Liam Clarke's first Southern 100 as a race marshal, and he had previously marshalled other events, including the Isle of Man TT.

THE Southern 100 road races have been cancelled after a crash yesterday evening in the 1,000cc practice session claimed the lives of two people.
UPDATE - the police have now confirmed that one rider and one marshal have been killed in the crash. No further details regarding the identity of both who lost their lives have been made public at this stage.
A statement from the race organisers confirms that this has been done so an investigation into the crash can be carried out in full.
The full statement from the Southern 100 race organisers reads:
'Following the serious incident that occurred during the final lap of last night’s practice session, the Southern 100 can confirm that the remainder of the event is now cancelled. The Clerk of the Course has taken the decision to cancel the remainder of the event due to the ongoing investigations and this continues to be the priority of the organisation.'

THE organisers of the Southern 100 road races have confirmed that a serious crash has resulted in the death of two people.
The crash happened last night at around 18:50 between Castletown Corner and Ballakeighan in the south of the Isle of Man. Four people in total were involved - two riders, a marshal, and a spectator. No further information has been provided as to the identity of those who have lost their lives. The crash happened towards the end of the 1,000cc practice session, with the organisers calling a halt to proceedings later that night, calling off the Senior race in the process.
A statement from the race organisers reads:
"The incident involved two riders, a marshal and a spectator and it is with deep sadness that we regret to announce that this incident has resulted in two fatalities.
"We pass on our deepest sympathy to the families, loved ones, and friends of those involved.
"At this time, we are unable to provide any further details of those involved in the incident and the current focus is to support those involved."
