Having spent the last two years in the red of GasGas, Jake Dixon and the Aspar team switch to CFMoto colours for 2024.
The move was announced a couple of weeks ago, but now we have our first look at the Aspar team’s new colours, which take CFMoto’s corporate colour, the blue-ish shade, and low-light it with a black secondary colour. It certainly makes a change from the GasGas scheme, which Aspar had run since 2022, when Jake Dixon rejoined the team he made his Moto2 debut with.
With the Sam Lowes leaving Moto2 for WorldSBK in 2024, and Rory Skinner being dropped by American Racing and heading back to British Superbikes with Cheshire Mouldings BMW, Dixon will this year be Britain's only representative in the Moto2 World Championship, a series he could have the potential to win, having won his first Grands Prix (first at Assen, then in Barcelona) in 2023.
CFMoto had spent the last couple of years as the sponsor of the PruestelGP team, but poor results led the Chinese brand - which has associations with the Pierer Mobility Group - to search for a different team to back. Switching to Aspar, which won the 2022 Moto3 World Championship with Izan Guevara and has in its ranks the Moto3 title favourite in David Alonso, means CFMoto is likely to be represented at the front of both the Moto3 and Moto2 World Championships.
The aforementioned Guevara remains in the position he held last year, alongside Jake Dixon in Aspar’s Moto2 team, while Alonso is joined in the Moto3 setup for 2024 by Joel Esteban, who has risen through the FIM JuniorGP (formerly FIM CEV) with Aspar, finishing fourth in last year’s JuniorGP standings and second in 2022’s European Talent Cup.
Aspar’s change of brand allegiance also means that GasGas will not be in the Moto3 or Moto2 World Championships this year, only in MotoGP where its logos are present on the Tech3 team’s KTM RC16s of Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez.
There is a possibility that the Tech3 team could run GasGas colours in Moto3, and if it were to do so a Moto2 return for the French outfit could be possible in the coming years, but for now it seems that GasGas will only be in the top class.
The 2024 MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3 World Championships begin on 8-10 March at the Qatar Grand Prix in Lusail.
