Cake has launched a new product, a new electric motorcycle powertrain called “Jante” which it hopes will bring new performance levels to its bikes.
Cake has never made any secrets about its environmentally conscious choice of powertrain. It rarely tries to shy away from the fact that its main motivation for using electric power is because of zero emissions from the powertrain itself.
In a press release announcing the new Jante motor, Cake says it “is dedicated to designing and manufacturing the most innovative electric off-road performance motorcycles at the highest quality, driven to inspire and accelerate towards a zero emission society.
“By constantly pushing the boundaries of technology with the most optimised solutions, Cake is speeding up the process of making combustion engines a thing of the past.”
It is a bold statement and hardly one which is likely to endear itself to many people in the motorcycle community, but you have to admire their honesty and commitment to their belief, which is that battery electrics are the solution for the future of mobility.
As for the Jante itself, the new motor uses new internal permanent magnet (IPM) motor technology, provides increases in performance meaning speeds of 100kph (62mph) and more are achievable for both high- and low-voltage drivetrains, and at-the-wheel torque can be more than 500Nm, with more torque also available at higher RPMs.
The durability and reliability of the new motor benefits from the use of aircraft-grade aluminium for the motor housing, and a dual-bearing shaft.
Power delivery has also been smoothed out, meaning better handling at low speeds and more manageable acceleration, while the design itself is lightweight and compact to increase the motor’s versatility.
Cake CEO and founder, Stefan Ytterbrorn, said: “We are very excited to introduce our new high performance Jante Drivetrain. The Jante represents a significant advancement in CAKE’s electric motor design, providing our customers with a superior product that meets their needs for performance, efficiency, and reliability.
“The biggest reason for our in-house developed motor is to take major steps forward, increasing performance for the category of lightweight electric motorcycles. At the heart of our vehicles everything is based on CAKE components that together deliver performance to the next level.
“We are happy to see our drivetrain technology being used in a number of bold projects. CAKE battery controller algorithms and more are already in other builds, and the new Jante is a significant addition to our drivetrain technology.”
