The Pierer Mobility Group will become majority stakeholders in MV Agusta, having initially bought into the company last year.
The Pierer Mobility Group - which currently owns KTM, Husqvarna, and GasGas - first took a chunk of MV Agusta in November of last year with a 25.1 per cent stake in the Italian brand.
It saw the Austrian firm, headed by Stefan Pierer, take over control of MV’s distribution and purchasing in October 2023, while the Italian manufacturer continued to build its own motorcycles.
A call option has been granted to Pierer Mobility Group allowing it to take a majority stake in MV Agusta. The option will be exercised in spring of 2026, based on financial records from 31 December 2025.
This means MV Agusta is on its way to becoming the fourth PMG-controlled brand, along with KTM, GasGas, and Husqvarna. The Austrian company also has industrial relationships with brands such as CFMoto, which builds the 799cc LC8c twin-cylinder engine used in the KTM 790 Duke and 790 Adventure, plus the CFMoto 800 MT and 800NK.
Details of the deal are currently not totally clear. Pierer Mobility Group sees MV as a ‘luxury’ brand in comparison to the light-hearted GasGas, understated Husqvarna and aggressive KTM images. When PMG bought its 25.1 per cent stake last year, MV insisted it would keep building its own bikes, which has been true, but KTM board member Hubert Trunkenpolz also said that bikes such as the planned 550cc version of the upcoming MV adventure bike are ones that MV should not be making.
KTM acquires stake in MV Agusta
The below statement was released by MV Agusta on 3 November 2022 when KTM AG acquired its first stake in MV Agusta.
Varese, 3rd November 2022 – MV Agusta and PIERER Mobility have agreed on a strategic cooperation.
Within the framework of this strategic partnership between the two European motorcycle manufacturers, KTM AG, a company of PIERER Mobility, will provide MV Agusta with supply chain support and take over the purchasing. Furthermore, in the course of this cooperation, MV Agusta will partly distribute its product range via PIERER Mobility’s worldwide distribution network.
In November 2022, KTM AG will acquire a 25.1% stake in MV Agusta Motor S.p.A., based in Varese (Italy), by way of a capital increase.
