MULTI-MILLIONAIRE petrolhead Jay Leno is recovering from multiple injuries this month, after having a peculiar accident while out riding one of his classic motorcycles.
Leno’s brush with death comes just over a month since the US talk show legend was involved in a fire at his garage, leaving the 72-year-old with second-degree burns. That incident involved his 1907 White Motor Co. steam-powered car, when a blocked fuel line erupted in flames burning his hands, face and chest.
This incident though is very different, with Jay Leno reported to be suffering multiple broken bones after being ‘clotheslined’ on his way out of a car park. He’d been out testing a 1940 Indian sidecar outfit that he’d been working on when he pulled over to check the fuelling of the machine. Once done, he pulled away to head back to his garage when the incident occurred.
Jay Leno crash details emerge
Speaking to Las Vegas Review-Journal (LVRJ), Leno described the crash.
“So I turned down a side street and cut through a parking lot, and unbeknownst to me, some guy had a wire strung across the parking lot but with no flag hanging from it … So, you know, I didn’t see it until it was too late. It just clothesline me and, boom, knocked me off the bike.”
Leno went on to explain why he hadn’t spoken up about the incident prior to chatting with the LVRJ.
“You know, after getting burned up, you get that one for free,” Leno said. “After that, you’re Harrison Ford, crashing airplanes. You just want to keep your head down (laughs).”
The clothesline incident has left Jay Leno with a broken collarbone, broken ribs, two cracked kneecaps and presumably a sizable repair bill for the bike!
