A mass rider protest at US Embassies demanding the extradition of the person suspected of causing the death of teenager Harry Dunn last year has been rescheduled and extended to include demonstrations in Edinburgh and Belfast.
The Justice4Harry Protest ride was originally set to take place on March 14 2020, but this has now changed to a US Embassy Ride and will occur on Friday 1 May. The co-ordinated protest urges riders to assemble outside the US Embassies in London, Edinburgh and Belfast at 1pm to petition for the extradition of Anne Sacoolas.
Prior to that a protest outside RAF Croughton on Sunday 29th March 2020 has also been arranged.
Dunn, 19, was killed on 27 August 2019 as he was riding his motorcycle near RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire when it collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction.
It is understood the suspected driver of the car, Anne Sacoolas, erroneously turned out of RAF Croughton on the incorrect right-hand side of the road, the direction of travel in the USA, where she is a citizen.
Though Sacoolas – wife of a CIA operative stationed at the base - assisted police with its initial investigation, she invoked diplomatic immunity to return to the United States, where she continues to flee the UK legal system.
The incident has created diplomatic tensions between the UK and US after the Crown Prosecution Service ruled Sacoolas was to be charged with causing death by dangerous driving and formally requested her extradition from the United States. This, however, was turned down by the US.
Harry Dunn’s death has also emphasised long-held concerns not enough is being done to improve awareness of driving regulations in and around United States airbases. Since his passing, a number of videos have circulated on the internet showing other incidents involving cars travelling on the wrong side of the road.
