The American manufacturer, Harley-Davidson, has released a new web series that looks at this year’s Africa Eco Race.
The series is already released in-full, with five episodes tracking Harley’s factory rider, Joan Pedrero - a veteran of the Dakar - as he makes his way through what is one of the most gruelling motorcycle rallies in the world.
Pedrero’s time with the Milwaukee brand has seen him become particularly familiar with the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250, which he used to win the Maxi Trail class at the 2022 Baja Aragon, and rode again to (spoiler alert!) Maxi Trail class victory in this year’s Africa Eco Race.
The first episode of the series is set before the start of the rally, as Pedrero prepares himself for the 6,000km to come; episode two looks at the role of the team around Pedrero and his function within that; the third instalment takes place in Mauritania; episode four is all about adaptability; and the fifth and final video tracks Pedrero through the final part of the rally, to its conclusion in Dakar, Senegal. The full series is available to watch at h-d.com/ecorace.
The Africa Eco Race is celebrated as the modern incarnation of the original Dakar, hence its route from Europe to the Senegalese capital. This year’s edition was notable for the success of Aprilia, whose rally-prepped Tuareg 660 won multiple stages on its way to overall victory on its debut with Jacopo Cerutti, beating the factory Yamaha Tenere 700s of Pol Tarres and Alessandro Botturi on the Tuareg’s first African rally raid.
