GasGas has made history in the TrialGP World Championship by becoming the first manufacturer to win in the Trial2 class with an electric bike.
GasGas’ TXE GP was piloted to Trial2 victory on Saturday at the TrialGP of Japan by Norwegian rider Sondre Haga.
Haga won the opening day of the TrialGP of Japan, held at the same Mobility Resort Motegi as the Japanese MotoGP, by six points ahead of Electric Motion’s Gael Chatagno.
Following his Trial2 Day 1 win in Japan, Sondre Haga said: “Day one was incredible, I felt really good all day and made barely any mistakes. It’s amazing to come here and take the win after so much work so I am really, really happy! Fifth place for day two is frustrating because we were so close to the podium all day. But overall, I’m really happy with this weekend and it gives me a lot of confidence that we’re fighting for the championship already. We will keep pushing from here and hopefully stay on top for the rest of the season.”
Haga couldn’t match his Day 1 performance on Sunday, though, finishing fifth, while Chatagno was third. Sherco went 1-2 in Trial2 on Sunday, with Britain’s Jack Peace beating his factory teammate Alex Canales Martos to the Day 2 win.
In the TrialGP class, victory was naturally taken by Toni Bou, who won both days on the Repsol Honda Team’s Montesa. Britain's Emma Bristow won both days in the Women's class.
The Motegi round was the first of TrialGP’s 2024 season. Round two brings the series back to Europe for the TrialGP of Andorra on 7-9 June.
